Be vigilant against the "invisible killer" during the weaning period! Golden rules for the prevention and control of Haemophilus parasuis disease

1、 The clinical manifestations of Haemophilus parasuis disease in weaned piglets mainly include the following symptoms:

1.1 In acute cases, the body temperature of the sick pig increased (40.5 ℃ -42.0 ℃), with depression and decreased appetite. Difficulty breathing, short cough (1-2 sounds each time), abdominal breathing. Joint swelling, limping, unwillingness to stand, and even ataxia. Skin may turn red or pale, ear tips may turn purple, and some pigs may experience neurological symptoms similar to edema. The disease course is short, and some pigs may suddenly die.

1.2 Chronic cases are mainly characterized by decreased appetite, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Coarse and messy fur, poor growth, swollen joints, and limping. The course of the disease is relatively long, which can last for 10-15 days. The growth rate of pigs that can tolerate it is significantly slowed down, and they become stiff pigs.

2、 Comprehensive prevention and control measures

2.1 Strengthen feeding management and strictly implement the "all in, all out" production mode to avoid mixing pigs of different ages. Keep the pigsty clean, dry, well ventilated, and reduce feeding density. Weaned piglets should eat colostrum early to obtain sufficient maternal antibodies. Add electrolytic multidimensional or vitamin C to feed or drinking water to alleviate stress. Keep warm during winter and spring seasons to avoid sudden temperature changes.

2.2 Vaccination of multiparous sows: Two doses of inactivated Haemophilus parasuis vaccine will be administered 30 days before delivery. Reserve sows: one free 40 days before delivery and two free 20 days before delivery. Piglets: The first immunization should be administered at a rate of 1ml per piglet between 10 and 30 days of age, and repeated after 15 days.

3、Biosafety measures strictly implement the disinfection system, and regularly disinfect pigsties, equipment, and transportation vehicles. Isolate and observe newly introduced pigs to avoid introducing pathogens.

 4、Other measures

4.1 Timely isolate sick pigs to prevent disease transmission.

4.2 Regularly monitor the health status of the pig herd, and promptly detect and treat diseased pigs.

4.3 Timely stabilize the condition of blue ear disease in pig farms, and Haemophilus parasuis disease is a shadow disease of blue ear disease. By implementing measures such as biosafety and Tamikacin, the condition of blue ear disease can be reduced and stabilized in a timely manner, thereby enhancing the ability of pigs to resist bacterial infections. Through the above measures, the occurrence of Haemophilus parasuis disease can be effectively prevented and controlled, reducing economic losses.
